Our Standards Testing facilities encompass several testing areas:
Wind Tunnel Testing (QinetiQ Farnborough) – 5m wind tunnel capable of running at a pressure of up to 3 atmospheres and Mach 0.32, that can accurately predict an aircraft’s performance at full scale. Additional information can be found on the
QinetiQ 5m Wind Tunnel Facility webpage.
Anechoic Chambers (QinetiQ Farnborough & MOD Boscombe Down) – A versatile test environment offering research and development opportunities for a range of aircraft, vehicles and systems. The facility’s unique design ensures that extraneous Radio Frequency emissions do not interfere with test results, while the Radio Frequency isolation ensures accuracy of results. MOD Boscombe Down is an LTPA facility so MOD permission must be sought by third parties who wish to use the facilities. Additional information can be found on the
QinetiQ Anechoic Test Facility webpage.
Explosives Testing (MOD Shoeburyness) – the Environmental Test Centre (ETC) provides facilities, technology and expertise to allow customers to safely assess how their live munitions react when subjected to varied environmental conditions. The ETC can replicate vibration, shock and impact effects under extreme climatic conditions. This is an LTPA facility so MOD permission must be sought by third parties who wish to use the facility. Additional information can be found at on the
LTPA Shoeburyness webpage.
