A 150,000 gallons water tank of 33 m (100 ft) hydraulic head supplies a gravity-fed horizontal open water channel. The working section is 0.9144 m (1 yard) wide, 0.3 m (1 ft) high, 4 m (12 ft) long. Operated as a water table, the water channel models by hydraulic analogy the two-dimensional wave patter around objects in supersonic and hypersonic flow. Water depth range 0-0.3 m, water speed range approximately 0-1 m/s. Test section is glazed on both sides and on the floor. Instrumented by schlieren and shadowgraph photography for wave visualization, piezometers, propeller flow meter, dye injection, hydrogen bubble generator.
