In 1985 the University of Surrey formed Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd as a spin-out company, located in Guildford, to transfer the results of its research into a commercial enterprise. The growth of the company has accelerated, and its innovative approach to the design, build, test and operation of spacecraft has propelled SSTL to the forefront of the small satellite industry. SSTL is now an independent UK company within the Airbus Defence and Space group.
Surrey Satellite Technology's facilities are fully dedicated to the manufacture and testing of its own programme of small satellite manufacture and the company does not offer its facilities to third parties.
