NPL Time & Frequency is also involved in the development of compact infra-red frequency standards as on-board satellite references for atmospheric CO

monitoring from space for climate change studies. In particular NPL has developed a low-profile continuous wave reference comprising a DFB laser stabilised to a 2051 nm absorption in a low-profile CO
2
-filled and sealed hollow core fibre, for anchoring a satellite-based pulsed 2051 nm laser probing atmospheric CO
2
concentrations by means of differential absorption lidar (DIAL).
